The Middle-East crisis has put the fear-peddlers to work – the fears constructed by «reactionary terrorism», i.e. the deranged means of the Middle-East bourgeoisies which makes no scruples of slaughtering helpless workers and stirring fanaticism and racial hatred, as well as the fears echoing back in Europe and in the Western countries. The conventional wisdom distilled by newspapers and televisions suddenly changes – it’s now the turn of tribunes and demagogues, of turncoat intellectuals, of the shrewd journalist looking for publishing opportunities, and of the priest too. But all this is not inevitable. There exists an alternative to war, terror, fanaticism, and to the ideologies designed to subjugate consciousness. The proletariat possesses colossal numerical strength. In North Africa and in the Middle-East it could be powerful enough to shake off corrupt and ruinous bourgeoisies. And what a power could it be when united with the wage-workers of Europe, India, China, and with the proletarians of all the world. The proletariat as a world power against the powers of capital and imperialism – this is the only answer to a world of fear. |
