Europe took its first steps of political unification after the immense massacre of two imperialist world wars. Its ideology is now that of a peaceful and peacekeeping Europe, after thirty years of European civil war had reduced its national states to powerlessness and made them the object of the Yalta division. The European dream originated there, and was extended also to the East of the Continent after the collapse of the USSR. But it is in view of Asia’s rise, i.e. the main cause of the acceleration of its unification, that Europe is transforming its myth of a “benign superpower” and beginning to appear as the bulwark against the rising pressure from the East, against the new “yellow peril”. The wide investigation in the editorials of Lotta Comunista between 1996 and 2006 collected here is essential for an understanding of the real nature of these processes and is thus also the foundation for an internationalist strategy. |
