The second of two volumes of “Studies of Imperialism” includes Cervetto’s papers dating back to the mid-1970s-mid 1980s decade. His excerpts, summaries and notes from books, journals, daily newspapers and writings of many authors show a wide and interesting overview of political standpoints, especially formulations and interpretations based on underdevelopment theories, but also theories of capitalist economic development. In the period in which Cervetto was developing his analysis and theses of the restructuring crisis, he couldn’t overlook the theoretical interpretations which were arising from the crisis in Keynesianism and would later become the basis of what he described as “imperialist liberalism”. Cervetto noted down that China and India would become “mature powers” by 2000, and “then they will be military powers as well”. “Bipolarism is destined to end up”. “The future will be multipolar”, i.e. characterised by “diffuse power”. And also: “the diffusion of power” can’t be prevented, “it is inevitable”. And in the next fifteen years Cervetto would thoroughly analyse such inevitable process in his articles on the “World Contest” and the “Multipolar World”. |
